The Jahri Evans Foundation
The Jahri Evans Foundation has awarded it's first scholarship for $1500 to Tyrell Martin. Tyrell is a graduate of Frankford High School in Philadelphia, Pa. and will be attending Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa. in the fall of 2010. Congratulations Tyrell. We wish you continued success as you further your education. Mission StatementThe Jahri Evans Foundation is a nonprofit corporation organized and operated exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. Specifically, this organization has been formed to a) advance education, b) provide relief to the poor, distressed and underprivileged, and c) instruct and train youth for the purpose of improving or developing their athletic capabilities. Our organization has designed and developed one (1) program in furtherance of our purposes.
Our program is entitled: The Jahri Evans Foundation. The purpose of this program is to advance education, provide relief to the poor, distressed and underprivileged and to instruct and train youth for the purpose of improving or developing their athletic capabilities. We further our purposes under this program by conducting various fundraising events in order to provide underprivileged athletic students with college scholarships.
Through our program we will conduct celebrity bowling parties, silent auctions, luncheons, dinners and football camps to raise funds for our organization. Our events will include celebrities from the NFL, NBA and NHL as well as local celebrities such as radio personalities, etc. With the funds raised, we will provide educational scholarships to student athletes in single-parent homes who plan to attend college. We would like to award the students $1,000 per scholarship but the amount will be based upon how much money our foundation raises each year. Recipients must be graduating high school athletic students in good academic standing with a grade point average of at least a B. They must come from a single-parent home and play a sport in college. The specific criteria we will use to select recipients will be an analysis of their academic performance during their junior and senior years in high school and their financial need. The students will be required to write an essay based upon how he or she would use the scholarship to further their college career as well as why they think they deserve the scholarship.
In addition to the above, we will conduct an annual football camp to teach children about the various aspects and techniques of the game. Jahri Evans will be responsible for giving instruction at the summer football camp. He is a professional NFL football player who has played for the New Orleans Saints as right guard. He has taught at numerous youth football camps and holds a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science. We plan to implement our football camp each summer at Frankford High School football field located at 5000 Oxford Ave., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19124.
